Why should I use Fidonet 2 Internet Mailer ?
1. You want to be a sysop or are already a sysop using Fidonet software like Frontdoor,
McMail, Xenia, Lora, Binkley, Portal of Power, d'Bridge, Intermail, Maximus, etc. and need/want
to send any kind of mail or files through the Internet
2. You want to save money on calling locally instead of long distance or internationally,
by redirecting your long distance calls onto the Internet.
3. You want to distribute filenets like PDN, SDS, TERMINAT, WINDOWS, OS2. By using
this program you can send the files to 100 people and actually only be online while
sending the file once (just with multiple receivers) then your host will send it to the
100 people saving you of being online for 99 times the time it takes to send the file.
As long as you are sending files to one person, you can just as well send them to 10
persons it does not take you any longer.
4. You want to continue using your ALLFIX or any other TIC processor that handle your
file distribution.
5. You are like me sending out beta-conferences to testers all over the world and this
allows you to send out mail through internet automatically. You use Fidonet conference
style which allows you to send/receive all messages to everybody without any risks of
security leaks like with public Newsgroups. You also send out updates to all the betatesters
and would like to only send the updates once and get offline as soon as possible.
6. You run a DOS or Windows Fidonet mailer/bulletin board under Windows 95 and want
to dial the internet automatically at certain times during the day or week. The event program
shuts down the DOS-window and runs Fido2Int. When Fido2Int is finished your original DOS-task
is restarted and your mailer is online again. The reason for doing this is that as soon as
a DOS-program has used the comport Windows 95 programs cannot use the port until the task
has been shutdown. You only need to work in a predefined batchfile and being able to shut
down you mailer using a semaphore file, which today almost any mailer supports. Example:
By creating a file called MCMEXT1.000 in my McMail directory McMail exists with errorlevel 0
which normally exits the batchfile you use for running to your mailer.
7. There are many more reasons why you would use this program however that is up to
you to decide. This is just the tool that enables you to automate sending files through the
internet. You do not need to be a sysop, you could simply use a program like AllFix for
distributing files and this program for sending them.
